Biography

Tibor Dengyel born in Cluj-Napoca (Romania) in 1913 was a Hungarian-Belgian painter, journalist, critic and graphic designer. Between 1931 and 1934, he was a student at the College of Fine Arts in Cluj, where he was taught by Aurél Ciupe. He moved in Hungary from 1935. Between 1935 and 1940 he studied at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest; here he was taught by László Kandó. He also visited the Faculty of Humanities of Pázmány Péter University.  In 1947 he received a scholarship in Turkey, and in 1948 he received a scholarship in Brussels, where he settled and from 1965 led a painting school. From 1949, he had exhibitions in the Benelux states, Germany, France and Italy. In 1955, he painted the portrait of the Belgian Prime Minister. His works can be found in the collection of the Hungarian National Gallery.
