In February 2023, I had the chance to see the exhibitions of Anton Prinner and Victor Brauner at a two days’ distance in time. The personal contacts between the two painters were already known to me, but it was fascinating to see nevertheless the visual dialogue between the works of the two artists. They were both inspired by the iconography of androgyny, of ‘neutral’ representations, based on esoteric symbolism. In Prinner’s case this was very much a lived experience also.
